A concerto in three movements. With program notes. Commissioned by the Baltimore Symphony. Co-commissioned by the Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias, Nashville Symphony, and Reno Philharmonic. Premiered by Manuel Barrueco and recorded by Jason Vieaux, the composer worked closely with the soloists to form a piece that is idiomatic for the guitar. Movement one is fast, witty and virtuosic. The slow second movement is scored for just strings, harp and solo guitar and is constructed to let the guitar be quiet and expressive. The last movement is filled with mixed rhythms and resembles a Spanish dance.
