The majority of the 44 pieces in this volume are arrangements of court airs (Boesset, Chancy, Guédron), lute pieces (Mézangeau, Pinel, Gaultier, Ballard) or ballet dances. Added to these are a few pieces attributed to French composers who are less well-known today (La Barre, Monnard). The collection concludes with a suite by Johann Jacob Froberger, a German composer passing through Paris in the middle of the century. With an introduction and critical notes in French and English.
