Kassel: Baerenreiter ©2020
With a preface in German and English, facsimile plates, appendices, and critical notes. Handel composed this work in 1739 on a text by John Dryden. He borrowed from several concerti and an Italian cantata to turn the shorter ode into a full-length work. This edition is based on the autograph and the performing score from the first performance, as well as other sources which chart the changing nature of the music through 1760.
