In one movement. With a composer's note. Co-commissioned by the Chamber Music Society of Louisville and the University of Louisville School of Music. Premiered by the Grawemeyer Players, April 2013. The music was inspired by current theory that evolution tends to take place suddenly, in between long periods of stasis. Scored for flute, clarinet, horn, violin, cello and piano.
