Hoffmeister composed this work for horn players Joseph Nagel and Franz Zwierzina, both of the Wallestein Kapelle. This is one of two Double Horn Concertos in E which survive in manuscripts held in the Oettingen-Wallerstein music collection. The Wallerstein copy is marked as No. 7, indicating it is the earlier of two concertos.
