This work which I began in hope. With a preface and critical notes in Russian and English. Schnittke composed this work in 1984-85. The text is by the Armenian monk Gregory of Narek (c.951-1003), as translated to Russian by Naum Grebnev. The work was premiered in Moscow, 1986 by the State USSR Ministry of Culture Chamber Choir. This volume is based primarily on the first edition, published in 2000 by Sikorski.
