Dedicated to Jennifer Black, Grace Cloutier and Rebecca Ringle who premiered the piece at New Music New Haven, Sprague Hall, Yale School of Music, New Haven, Connecticut in November 2004. Winner of the Yale University John Day Jackson Prize for Best Chamber Music Composition 2005. This setting of excerpts from Gertrude Stein’s “Stanzas in Meditation” is a personal meditation on select stanzas and lines from the poem. In selecting the excerpts, Snider sought to highlight the recurring themes of identity and alienation.
