Born in Visby, Sweden, Andree was elected to the Swedish Acad. of Music in 187 A Swedish law forbidding women to be professional organists prevented her from initially pursuing a career; when the law was subsequently changed, she became organist in Stockholm from 1861-1867, and later director in Goeteborg.
