Suk composed this work for a 1914 concert following the outbreak of World War I, as a Czech counterbalance to the Austrian anthem that would open the program. The music was intended for string quartet or string orchestra. This edition presents the version for string quartet, with the double bass part omitted. This edition is based on the autograph score and parts.
