A one-movement work in five main sections. Menter was a great pianist at the turn of the 20th century. This work is based on three themes, and was originally composed for two pianos. There is a school of thought that the music was actually composed by Liszt, who was Menter's teacher. Tchaikovsky orchestrated the work in 1892 while visiting with Menter.
