A quartet in three movements. With a program note. Commissioned by the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard for the Concord String Quartet. The music contains two main themes which run through all three movements. One theme appears in various variations and two scherzos, while the other is featured in a series of marcia-ritornellos.
