Commissioned for Dawn Upshaw by the Carnegie Hall Corporation, and premiered in March 2004. The music consists of settings of eleven texts from a variety of disparate sources, and is scored for flute, clarinet, horn, guitar, harp, accordion, sampler, viola, cello and bass.
