Following the death of Cesar Franck in 1890, Widor was requested to direct the organ studies at the Paris Conservatoire, and later took charge of the composi tion class in 1896. He was also a founding member of the Casa Velasquez in Madrid and the American Conservatoire in Fontainebleau.
