Composer of the Month October 2020: Raymond Torres Santos

Raymond Torres-SantosPuerto-Rican composer Raymond Torres-Santos's multifaceted career encompasses a wide range of musical talents as a composer, conductor, arranger, pianist, author, administrator and educator. His works include orchestral, electronic and vocal music for the concert hall, film, theater, ballet, television and radio. Torres-Santos's music has been performed and/or commissioned by orchestras and ensembles including the American Composers Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Vancouver and Toronto Symphonies; the Vienna, Prague Radio, Georgia and Soria Symphony Orchestras; the National Chinese Orchestra, Shanghai and Seoul Symphony Orchestras and many others. His compositions and arrangements have been recorded by Sony Music, OSPR and SJP record labels and published by ANCO and RTS Music. He is the recipient of awards given by BMI, Meet the Composer, American Composers Forum, American Music Center, ASCAP, California State University and City University of New York. His music for film earned him a Henry Mancini Award, while his jazz composition earned him the Frank Sinatra Award. Torres-Santos holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Composition from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed advanced studies at Stanford and Harvard University. He furthered his studies in Europe, at the 'Ferienkurse für Neue Musik' in Germany, and at the University of Padua, Italy. He is a professor of composition at California State University, Long Beach.
