In one movement. With program and performance notes. Commissioned by Sandbox Percussion, Blow Up Percussion, and the Park Avenue Armory. Premiered by Sandbox Percussion in New York City, October 2023. Scored for 4 harmonicas, crotales, 4 snare drums, glockenspiel, 2 glockenspiel bars, marimba, 9 pitched deskbells, vibraphone, sizzle cymbal, cabasa, muted piccolo woodblock, and kick drum. Although this work references the Beethoven piece of the same name, it is principally inspired by Frank O’Hara’s poem Ode to Joy, with an excerpt printed as text before the score.
