Composed 3 years after Offrandes Oubliees, this piece still resounds with the pain and sadness experienced by the composer who lost his mother when he was only 19 years old. With preface by Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen. The work was premiered at Salle Pleyel in Paris, March 1933 by Orch. Symphonique/P.Monteux.
