Bergh studied piano and composition with Ferdinand Ries and A.F. Bergmueller, respectively. Her first composition, a sonata for piano, was published by J.J. Hummel when she was 9 years old. She was the first Dutch woman to publis an instruction manual on the fundamentals of music theory.
