Edited by Paul Corneilson. A work for solo voices, choir and instruments in 25 movements. With a preface, introduction, libretto, facsimile plates, and critical report. Two appendices. Bach's fourth setting of John's Passion narrative premiered in Lent, 1784. Much of the music is based on Telemann's St. John Passion, TVWV 5:30. Two arias are based on material from cantatas by Benda. This volume is based on the original performing material, a set of 18 parts.
