Begun in 1987, the Mass is an "outgrowth" of the composer's association with the Choir of All Saints Church in New York. The work was awarded second prize in the 5th Int'l Competition in Composition of Sacred Music (1993) of the Fribourg Festival of Sacred Music in Switzerland.
